LA GRANDE PROMENADE, LASALLE :

  • Territories 2.0, Olivier Roberge

Co-produced with Mathieu Fecteau and EXMURO arts publics.

A starry cube encloses a diorama illustrating a miniature landscape abundantly transformed by human intervention and climate change. The summer panorama is punctuated by billboards and graffiti. This collision of symbols alludes to the capitalist interests perpetuated by consumerist campaigns as well as the need for individual expression that counterbalances them. Is the fiery visual on the signs a sign of destruction of the natural territory, or a hope for regeneration?

The work was originally produced and presented in a winter version for the Christmas Lights Across Canada event in Ottawa in 2017, 2018 and 2019.

  • Cube Spatial, Marie-Eve Martel

Associated with mysticism and the mathematical world, the cube has a fascinating and mysterious character. The work invites the discovery of a hidden world, halfway between the organic and the geometric. From the magic eye, a hybrid city partially integrates the exterior while multiplying its own reflections in confusing perspectives.

The work was produced and presented initially for the public art circuit PASSAGES INSOLITES in Quebec City in 2017 and on tour in Longueuil in 2021.

LE GRAND VOYAGE – ATSA (Quand l’art passe à l’action) :

  • Suitcases, Giorgia Volpe.

Left abandoned in the city, Giorgia Volpe’s suitcases seem to have been dropped off and then forgotten, misplaced or voluntarily given up by their bearer. The suspicious luggage are not threatening, nor do they contain personal belongings to be seized or treasures to be discovered: they are entirely composed of solid concrete which rules out any use. Frozen thus in heavy and inert matter, the obsolete suitcases refer to the recent stagnation of nomadism and human migrations.

When I was indifferent to notions of scale, life was a playground where the world was built to the rhythm of my imagination. A simple paper sculpture would take me overseas. I was richer than the businessmen. I grew up. Life is now filled with tangible concepts. Daydreaming has been evacuated to make room for responsibilities. I no longer take the time to fool around with the crazy ideas that may cross my mind. I focus on the real thing. My imagination has been replaced by piles of paper that I would no longer dare to sculpt. Today, paper airplanes don’t fly in the wind…
