THE EXPOSITION

THE DISCO BALL CEMENT TRUCK

For one evening, Benedetto Bufalino will convert a cement mixer into a giant disco ball, staged to look like construction has been interrupted to make way for a party. The mixer truck decorated with mirrored facets will be parked in the middle of Place Royale, pumping out dance music and casting myriad reflections onto the surrounding architecture. By hijacking a construction site, the unlikely installation will transform the public square into an impromptu dance floor for the community.

Benedetto Bufalino sees everyday public spaces as playgrounds for offbeat reinterpretations of reality, where he is able to subvert perceptions of urban space by rearranging it. The dazzling cement mixer refracts light as it rotates, taking over the square, drawing us into a moment of collective joy, and highlighting the beauty of the cityscape.
