HUMANORIUM

Humanorium is a big outdoor collective event inspired by the funfairs of the 19th and 20th centuries.

In a singular, accessible environment, Humanorium entertains and delights visitors by reinventing the sensational world of fairground arts with artists from Quebec, Canada and Europe. Their creations lay lovely traps for the unsuspecting public, taking on the seductive guise of bewitching rides, intriguing attractions and playful booths.

Humanorium’s works touch on different facets of human existence. They show the body in all its states, represent different expressions of identity, and engage the senses. The artists immerse us in distinct universes that evoke the human condition at its most beautiful, painful and comedic. With candy in hand and stars in your eyes, day or night, join the spontaneous festivities at Place de Paris!

Wild ride, thrills guaranteed! You’ve never experienced a merry-go-round like the one that awaits when you take a seat in a shopping cart, protected by multiple security fences—making you, intrepid passenger, a lovely piece of merchandise. 

LE STAND DE TIR – MARC SÉGUIN (MONTRÉAL – QUÉBEC)  

Le visou est-il l’une de vos forces ? Alors venez tenter votre chance d’atteindre la cible et, du même coup, de tirer sur l’autoportrait de l’artiste. D’un lance-pierre et une balle de peinture, osez atteindre le cœur de l’œuvre. Narcissisme et autodérision assurés !

In an unusual screening room, you are invited to watch two short films, beautiful and disturbing, echoing the extraordinary strength of indigenous women. In the land of the quest for reconciliation, there is red celebration, lobster red, child red, love red, blood red; there is white hope, light hope.

Activate this forgotten flea market stall, this mechanical orchestra! The percussion of chunks of wood, the chords of mixers, the clink of antique crockery, the flicker of lampshades: the dust rises and a surprising music emerges.

Step inside this pretty, tiny carnival shack and prepare to be immersed in an awe-inspiring, seemingly boundless sonic universe. Your auditory and physical imagination is in for an unforgettable barrage of weird and wonderful carnival sounds as you lose yourself in a maelstrom of laughs and screams.

Brace yourself—this museum of death is no walk in the park! Think you know all about haunted houses? Prepare to be shocked by post mortem photographs that are brimming with life and showcase the sensuality of the human body, walking the thin line between life and death.

Have no fear! Step up and take your place in a crowd of strangers on a bevy of screens, brave souls unafraid to delve deep into the world of body modification and fearlessly join the massive freak show the internet sometimes becomes. Self-created monsters, perhaps; new global identity, certainly.

Enter this opulent space outside of time to be transported to a faraway land of Siamese sculptures and imaginary beasts; a self-contained parallel universe where you’re surrounded by objects at once familiar and exotic. The faraway has never been so near!

Rare specimen in the window! A truly sublime beauty! Brace yourself for an unsettling encounter with a one-of-a-kind creature, an animal woman or a madonna with patchwork skin and a glimmering body—that’s if she decides to appear in the void left by your reflection. 

CABINET DE CURIOSITÉS 2 – LOUIS FORTIER (MONTREAL – QUEBEC)  

Most artworks dutifully await our contemplation. Then there are those that stare right back at us. Such an experience awaits in this room, where every astonished gaze is directed squarely at you, sole spectator surrounded by a sea of humanity, a group portrait of a society of indiviudals striving to assert their position.
