Exposition Mignoniste at EXMURO’s Aire Publique is the gallery show component of the artistic takeover of the neighbourhood by the artist’s iconic pink figure know as Mr. Pink.
Philippe Katerine’s artistic universe spans a range of media including drawing, painting, photography, video and sculpture. His mignoniste images tackle serious subjects from an off-kilter, heartwarming perspective.
For the artist, the trick is to create something cute out of the serious side of life, as a strategy for survival. Like visual poems, his comic images embrace the magic of everyday life with a charming dose of absurdity, revealing the full range of the popular French artist’s exuberant creative palette and his inclusive, accessible approach.
Philippe Katerine first came to prominence with a 2005 hit single, Louxor, j’adore, and is still best known as a musical artist. In 2020, he was named Best Male Artist of the Year for his musical output (Victoires de la Musique awards), and he is also a prolific actor who has won a César Award for best supporting actor in the film Sink or Swim.
