THE EXHIBITION
WISH MACHINES

Artist Fannie Giguère presents a series of luminous, interactive animations designed to enliven the winter streets of the Saint-Roch neighborhood. Installed on building façades along Saint-Joseph Street and in the surrounding area, Wish Machinesbrings to life familiar rituals associated with making wishes: blowing out birthday candles, crossing one’s fingers, plucking the petals of a daisy, linking pinky fingers with a friend, or catching the moment when 11:11 appears on a clock.

With the simple press of a button, these large line drawings—crafted from LED strips—spring into motion through frame-by-frame sequences, reminiscent of glowing GIFs.

Wish Machines invites passersby to reconnect with a universal and deeply human gesture: making a wish. Through this work, Fannie Giguère explores the intimate bond that forms between individuals and the objects of their desires when they dare to give shape to their hopes. Each wish becomes an act of faith—a suspended moment in which our aspirations are transformed into light.
