PIPILOTTI RIST
SIP MY OCEAN
FROM MAY 16, 2025 TO JANUARY 4, 2026
QUEBEC AIRE PUBLIQUE INDOOR EXHIBITION

SIP MY OCEAN
Experience the hypnotic depths of Sip My Ocean. This immersive video installation by Pipilotti Rist transports audiences into a kaleidoscopic, aquatic paradise.
The work unfolds saturated, dreamlike images of waves, coral, and household objects slowly sinking into the deep. A woman in a bikini floats and swims, sensually merging with the marine environment while subtly challenging voyeuristic gazes and gender norms.
The soundscape — a powerful remix of Wicked Game by Chris Isaak, performed by the artist herself — shifts between gentle melodies and piercing cries, revealing an inner struggle between desire and resistance. The piece poetically explores the contradictions of human longing, where intimacy, chaos, and cosmic wonder collide.
Presented in Aire Publique’s historic vaulted cellar, the double projection’s power is heightened by the colonnade dividing the space, while the ceilings’ arches amplify the sound. The sombre atmosphere accentuates the surprise of being plunged into the ocean’s depths.

THEMATIC PROGRAMMING 2025
ART ON THE EDGE OF CHAOS
With its 2025 programming, EXMURO’s Aire Publique becomes a forum for bold artistic explorations of individuals and communities confronting powerful natural forces. The works of Pipilotti Rist (Switzerland), Isaac Cordal (Spain), and Martin Bureau (Québec) subvert norms and recast assumptions to confront the far-reaching forces of capitalism, patriarchy, and the climate crisis. What all three artists share are sharply critical worldviews that foster a collective awareness of the urgency to act, reminding us that in the ashes of every collapse lies a promise of renewal.
EXMURO’s Aire Publique is supported by the Fonds de mise en valeur et d’animation de la Place Royale, administered by the Musée de la civilisation.
