New works and exhibitions in public spaces and public areas
Québec, Thursday August 29, 2024 - At the close of a record-breaking summer season, the EXMURO is proud to announce its latest first cultural season. From September 13 and throughout the autumn, new exhibitions will be unfolding in situ to thePublic areathe new arts venue inaugurated this summer, as well asoutside its wallsfor the enjoyment of curious onlookers and passers-by alike.
Larger-than-life cultural events
True to its name and mission, EXMURO will be offering three new exhibitions outside its walls. Starting on September 13, the public will be able to visit the cannons of the Royal Battery to admire CUL-DE-SAC-2024a wall of books by the artist Alicia Martín. Erected opposite the artillery of the 17e century and consequently obstructing its trajectory, CUL-DE-SAC-2024 highlights the power of literature to transmit culture, memory and knowledge. The presentation of CUL-DE-SAC-2024 eXMURO will be joining forces with the Québec en toutes lettres festival to offer an evening of poetry on the theme of peace on October 22. From September 28 to October 6, the Place de Paris will be invaded, this time by the bizarre funfair Humanoriumimagined by Vincent Roy and Ève Cadieux. Every day, from 12 pm to 9 pm, this large-scale fair inspired by those of the 19e and 20e siècles will feature works by numerous artists from Quebec, Canada and Europe, including The shooting range from Marc Séguin or the famous Carousel from BGL. Within several distinct universes, their creations, as intriguing as they are inviting, will set amusing traps for the public and offer sensory experiences, while exploring notions of the body and expression of identity. Access to the site and the festivities are free of charge, but the public is invited to purchase coupons on site for access to rides, attractions and kiosks ($2 for an individual coupon or $10 for a book of 12 coupons).
Finally, on November 9, for one night only, The faceted ball concrete mixer from Benedetto Bufalino will transform Place Royale into a gigantic dance floor from 17 h to 21 h! Parked on the public square, the woupie truck will be decorated with countless pieces of mirror, making the emblematic site of Old Quebec shimmer like a giant dance floor gigantic disco ball. A show full of music and dance, made possible with the support of Béton Provincial, that will enhance the beauty of our architectural heritage... and it's free!
Visit BAD ART Show and LANDE set up shop at Aire publique
From October 18, 2024 to March 30, 2025, the Aire Publique will host two new exhibitions, and access is completely free. Visit BAD ART Show will first present the Museum of Bad Art (MOBA) collection, made up of the cream of "art too bad to ignore". Beloved by the public, the works, whose authors are unknown, have been recovered as donations, from flea markets or garbage garbage cans. As part of the exhibition, they will line the walls of a convivial Victorian drawing room, inviting us to celebrate those who dare to take the plunge for the simple pleasure of creating. Cultural activities linked to the BAD ART Show will be offered on site: more details to come in the coming weeks.
Alissa Bilodeau will have her second exhibition at l'Aire publique. Drawing her inspiration from the concept of habitat in ecology, the artist knits biological excrescences reminiscent of carnivorous plants, anemones and mushrooms. This is what makes up LANDEa sort of fantastic garden, each one more varied in texture, color and silhouette than the last. The public will also be invited to take part in the creation of this evolving work as part of the Journées de la culture: on September 28, EXMURO will join forces with the 28e edition of the event to offer the public a knitting workshop with Alissa Bilodeau.
EXMURO is also taking advantage of the back-to-school period to remind students that the Aire publique is a space open to all. You can bring your own computer to study or work, or simply relax with a coffee purchased on site. Wi-Fi access is free, and a menu of hot drinks is available.
Finally, throughout September and until October 6, the public will be able to see or revisit Philippe Katerine's work with Monsieur Rose takes flight andl'Cute exhibition. In praise of travel by artist Philippe Ramette will conclude its summer tour of Quebec at the National Assembly from September 16 to October 28. Works by Jérôme Trudelle (Resurgence), Alissa Bilodeau (Abysses) and Jay Soule - Chippewar (Built on Genocide) will be on display at Aire publique until March 30, 2025.
Passers-by, the curious and seasoned art lovers alike: the entire population of Quebec City is invited to take part in EXMURO's first cultural season from September 13, inside and out!
