BIG OTHER

Big Other is a work by the Pierre&Marie collective. Installed in Quebec City as part of PASSAGES INSOLITES 2023, it is now in place in the Treasure Hill Artist Village district in Tapei (Taiwan) as part of a project organized by Amnesty International Taiwan.

Big Other is a presence, both benevolent and oppressive, that harkens back to George Orwell's Big Brother and refers to our ambiguous relationship with social networks in the age of surveillance capitalism. Under their innocuous guise, digital platforms imperceptibly observe us to feed industries that orient and condition our behavior.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

PIERRE&MARIE

Forming the Pierre&Marie duo since 2008, Pierre Brassard and Marie-Pier Lebeau Lavoie manipulate symbols of popular culture to highlight the strangeness of our contemporary societies and the lightness that lies dormant within them. Their work, which asserts a necessary need for wonder, has recently been the subject of major solo exhibitions at the Musée Régional de Rimouski and Espace 400e.

PARTNERS

This work was originally created for the PASSAGES INSOLITES public art trail, designed by EXMURO art public and presented by Quebec City.
