CEMENT ECLIPSES
Isaac Cordal creates urban eclipses by inserting small characters into unexpected corners of the city. As you wander the streets, you can spot them at ground level, nestling in the cavities of facades and topping the cornices of buildings. These miniature figures of businessmen and tourists adopt postures and expressions that convey a sense of awareness. The artist configures his eclipses into tragi-comic scenes that underline the vagaries of our contemporary condition.
Cement Eclipses takes an amusing yet critical look at today's society, tackling important issues such as climate change and inequality. The small size of the sculptures heightens curiosity and allows us to consider these issues in a new light.
EXMURO invited Isaac Cordal to create an itinerary of over 45 miniature sculptures inspired by the historical and heritage context of the Old Port, particularly around Rue Saint-Pierre, Quebec's "Wall Street", once home to numerous banks.

INTERVIEW WITH THE ARTIST
ABOUT THE ARTIST
ISAAC CORDAL
The sculptural installations of Spanish artist Isaac Cordal question contemporary humanity. With commitment, he denounces the power imbalances and dynamics of oppression that underpin the era of capitalism and the Anthropocene. Often, his ephemeral installations are destined to disappear. Photographic documentation allows their traces to be preserved.

THEMATIC PROGRAMMING 2025
ART ON THE EDGE OF CHAOS
For its 2025 program, EXMURO's Aire publique becomes the stage for artistic explorations in which humans are subjected to the powerful impulses of natural forces. Works by Pipilotti Rist (Switzerland), Isaac Cordal (Spain) and Martin Bureau (Quebec) subvert norms and reinterpret our assumptions, confronting the insidious forces of capitalism, patriarchy and the climate crisis. Sharing critical visions of the world, the three artists invite us to become collectively aware of the urgency to act, and remind us that every collapse holds the promise of renewal.
