The exhibition
LANDE
Alissa Bilodeau is inspired by the concept of habitat in ecology to knit biological outgrowths in the image of ground cover and carnivorous plants, anemones and mushrooms. LANDE seems to emerge from a dreamlike wonderland to invade the EXMURO Public Area. The arborescence, covered in animal, plant and aquatic textures and silhouettes, shimmers with a color that is anything but natural. By taking us through a portal under this singular arch, the artist opens a breach into the imaginary.
LANDE is the beginning of an evolving co-creation. Visitors are invited to knit, crochet or make pompons in a cosy, warm alcove with wool and tools at their disposal. For the duration of the show, the public's textile contributions will be collected, pieced together and arranged in such a way as to gradually cover the architectural elements in the exhibition space. Inspired by Alissa Bilodeau's plush installations, these collective proliferations will give rise to an open, friendly and gentle knitting circle.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
ALISSA BILODEAU
Guided by the concept of habitat in ecology, Alissa Bilodeau creates sculptural installations with metamorphic forms and textile surfaces evocative of invasive organisms. Her projects suggest vegetation in a state of retaliation that overwhelms us and invites us to re-examine our relationship with natural ecosystems.
Alissa Bilodeau holds a bachelor's degree in visual and media arts from Université Laval and a Technique en sculpture from the Maison des métiers d'art de Québec. She has presented a dozen solo exhibitions in Quebec and participated in major events such as the Biennale internationale des métiers d'art et création in Paris.
