Radical Nature
At the intersection of the Stone Age and contemporary leisure, astonishing vehicles are scattered throughout the neighborhood. Although one could ride them, the ATV, jet ski, and all-terrain vehicle aren’t about to move anywhere, as they’ve been fused into stone. The raw, inert mineral material lends a paradoxical sense of monumentality to these motorized machines, aboard which (when functional) humans assert their presence in the natural environment for their own recreational pleasure.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Baptiste Debombourg (France)
Baptiste Debombourg’s sculptural work explores human relationships—both between people and with the objects that shape our daily lives. His works have been exhibited in Europe, Asia, and North America, and featured in major public art events such as “Voyage à Nantes,” “Un été au Havre,” and the OPENART Biennial in Örebro.
