THE IMPERMANENCE OF THE MONUMENT

With its imposing volume and gilded finish, the architectural element is entirely covered with a high-relief of breadsticks cast in papier-mâché, one of the artist's preferred materials. The work brings together symbolic elements of the domestic, both in the reference to daily bread and in the dimensions of the arch, which exactly match the height of the ceilings and doors in the artist's apartment. Perfectly aligned with the pathway, L'impermanence du monument slips seamlessly into the park, forming a passageway to the river.

"The loaves are installed in such a way as to imitate the stones or bricks of a building. It's a way for me to present domestic work as foundational, as much in the construction of a society as on a more personal level, in the construction of intimacy." - Sarah Thibault
