THE SCULPTURIST

A statuesque figure emerges from the public square like a heroine brandishing her weapons. The female effigy wears a work coverall and carries a hammer. By highlighting the attributes of studio work, La Sculptrice emphasizes the labor and technical know-how involved in creation.

By placing this image of an invincible-looking woman in the public space, the artist is committed to advancing the cause of women by questioning the stereotypes that are omnipresent in the representation of women. In a highly evocative mise en abyme, the artist represents herself. In so doing, she asserts and valorizes her own status as an artist. Stoic and unshakeable on its pedestal, the immaculate white monument also pays tribute to the strength of women and their indisputable place in the practice of public art.
