WISHING MACHINES

Artist Fannie Giguère presents a series of luminous, interactive animations designed to brighten up the winter streets of the Saint-Roch district. Installed on the facades of buildings along rue Saint-Joseph and the surrounding area, Les Engins à souhaits depict popular rituals associated with making wishes: blowing out a candle on a birthday cake, crossing fingers, leafing out a daisy, interlacing your little finger with that of a friend, or seeing the time 11 h 11 appear on a dial.

At the touch of a button, these large line drawings, drawn with LED strips, come to life in frame-by-frame sequences, like luminous GIFs.

Wishing machines invites passers-by to reconnect with a universal and profoundly human gesture: making a wish. Fannie Giguère explores the intimate connection that develops between the individual and the object of his desires when he dares to give shape to his hopes. Each wish becomes an act of faith, a suspended moment when our aspirations are transformed into light.
