MR. PINK TAKES FLIHT
This winter, the Flatiron and NoMad districts welcome a playful public art trail by French artist Philippe Katerine. Featuring nine illuminated inflatable and resin sculptures of the iconic Mr. Pink, the installations animate rooftops, plazas, and public spaces, transforming the neighborhood into a vibrant, walkable destination. Part of the Flatiron NoMad Partnership’s Winter Glow program, Mr. Pink turns the district into an immersive winter experience, accessible for all to enjoy.
The sculptures embody Mignonisme, or “Cuteism,” Katerine’s whimsical movement celebrating cuteness, color, and creativity in everyday life. Each oversized figure, with gentle charm, playfully inhabits the urban landscape, creating candy-colored adventures and turning the streets into joyful, shareable moments.
More than just visual delight, Mr. Pink activates the city, fostering connection, curiosity, and wonder. These charming characters offer a playful pause in the city’s rhythm, inviting New Yorkers to smile, explore, and see their environment anew, reminding us that public art can create spaces of joy, imagination, and community.

Philippe Katerine is a popular artist whose multifaceted body of work rewards further exploration. He is known for subverting aesthetic norms and cultural conventions while staying true to his highly personal and deeply singular ethos. Though well-known as an actor, director, singer and composer, Philippe Katerine is also a visual artist who portrays everyday life with humorous takes on the timeless questions of existence.
Philippe Katerine first came to prominence with a 2005 hit single Louxor, j’adore and is still best known as a musical artist. In 2020, he was named Best Male Artist of the Year for his musical output (Victoires de la Musique awards), and he is also a prolific actor who has won a César Award for best supporting actor in the film Sink or Swim.
